About Me :D
The short version: I'm a visual and information visualisation designer, illustrator, poet and writer, who's been doing these things her whole life, who puts in immense thought (sometimes warranted, sometimes not) into everything she does.
The longer version: I've always been known as the art kid. From stubbornly colouring even when it went outside the lines back in preschool (and getting into trouble for snatching my classmates' work to colour it for them as well), to always being the one to whom all the 'artsy' stuff, the borders, the covers, the fonts and colours for projects was delegated to, it's been something I've loved forever.
I'd always been doodling and making up stories since I was small, but my breakthrough moment was when one of my works got selected for the Mayor's Art Show in Tennessee. That was the moment my parents realised that my art was not just me scribbling away in books, but was being recognised. I just needed that extra push, and I never looked back.
In school, I was the one dancing on stage, making props backstage, helping and participating in art exhibitions, and my name was always one of the first whenever anything creative came to mind. However, whenever the topic of college came up, I was always confused. India isn't a country that's very comfortable with creative careers yet, and I was pushed to do something more academic, which led to me preparing for the NEET (India's national medical examination for college entrances) during my 11th and 12th. Due to the intense pressure and lack of time, I had to regretfully put my art on the side lines (though I was still known as the art kid even there).
However, that experience shaped me deeply as a person. I came out of it as a major biology nerd (catch me in conversations relating biology terms with a huge smile which slowly disappears as I realise that my friends don't know what I'm talking about) and with the realisation that art was not something I could live without, and left to do something more up my alley, which is visual design and illustration.
Which led me to Srishti! I am now studying in my 4th year of college, pursuing a B.Des in Visual Communication and Strategic Branding. When I am not drawing or designing, I write poetry, come up with characters and write stories about them (currently planning a series of 5 books for a few of them!), or just about read anything and everything I can get my hands on. Most of the time, you'll find me geeking out over Genshin Impact or yet another illustrator I found online who just makes the greatest art ever!!!
Speaking of Srishti, taking a class about data visualisation, in no uncertain words, changed my life. It felt like all the puzzle pieces clicked into place. My two sides: one analytical and logical, the other creative and imaginative, both inspired and both always at the forefront of all my endeavours, came together so brilliantly that it made me think: Hey, I think I finally know what I want my next internship to be in!
Thus, I also now geek over datasets and beautiful visualisations :D
I have worked for NGOs (once managing my own design team!), and various brands, as well as educational institutions. I've also been a freelance colourist for Amar Chitra Katha, as well as a UX Design intern at Accenture Song! Currently, I'm a visual design and illustration intern at Biotales.
I love to bring my passion for the environment and social causes into my work, because I believe that design is a medium of change, and there is never anything as 'too much'.
You can find me on Instagram, and can contact me on there or through my email!
