SanDisk is a brand of Western Digital, a multinational computer technology that focusses on flash memory products.
The brand was founded in 1988 by Eli Harari, Sanjay Mehrotra and Jack Yuan.
SanDisk was founded on the belief that semiconductor-based data storage was the future of digital content. They envisioned a future for flash memory that could be used in various devices- digital cameras, MP3 players, laptops- and have since been leading the way for the past 36 years, with groundbreaking innovations that eventually became industry standards.
Their product range is vast, including memory cards, USB flash drives, solid-state drives and digital audio players, catering to various consumer and enterprise markets.
As part of a 4-week studio on brand identity, we picked brands to renew for the current times. Having featured prominently throughout my life, SanDisk was a natural choice.

Professional Photographers & Videographers
This segment includes customers who need high-quality and high-capacity flash memory cards for their various devices- for example, cameras and camcorders. They value the durability, performance and assurance SanDisk’s products are able to offer them.
Preferred product ranges- Extreme and Extreme Pro series
Mobile Users
These include customers who use USB flash drives or flash memory cards to store and transfer data, music, photos and videos on their mobile devices- smartphones, tablets and MP3 players, amongst others. They value the compatibility across devices, convenience and portability of SanDisk’s products.
Preferred product ranges- Ultra and Cruzer series
PC Users
These are consumers who use solid-state drives or flash memory cards to improve upon the storage capacities and performance of their computers- such as desktops and laptops. They prefer SanDisk’s products for their speed, efficiency and security.

The SanDisk symbol uses the silhouette of a SD card-one of its most widely sold products, due to its instantly recognisable nature. The shape of a S and a D is included in it to represent the SanDisk name.
It retains the original personality that people have trusted and valued for 36 years, while simultaneously pushing it into the modern era.
COLOURS
TYPEFACE
The main typeface is Sofia Pro, a comprehensive and versatile typeface that balances both modernism and harmonious curves. It was originally created for the capital city of Bulgaria, but has found popularity outside of it as well.
Sofia Pro is both clean and minimal, yet does not seem too impersonal or detached. It is both scientific enough to show the brand's constant innovation,  yet simple enough to cater to everyone.
